Our History
When Indian Territory became the forty-sixth state of the union in 1907, Larkin Bailey’s family loaded their belongings in a boxcar in Michigan and came to Oklahoma, joining the many Sooner citizens.

In 1910, his father, W.S. Bailey purchased tract books from a bank in Broken Arrow and opened an abstract company. Eventually moving the office to downtown Tulsa in 1920, it became the family-owned business known as Tulsa Abstract. In 1927, after serving his tour of duty in France during WWI and acquiring a law degree, Larkin Bailey returned to Tulsa to take over this father’s company. By 1955, he moved the office to its present location at 7th & Denver Avenue. As the city grew, so did Tulsa Abstract. Larkin Bailey retired after sixty-three years of abstracting. He was a former Rotary Club president and ORU supporter and despite his retirement, Mr. Bailey continued to touch base with the company he loved so much until his death in 1992.
Technology has transformed the methods of how work is handled in many ways, yet some things remain the same. The old tract books from long ago are still used. Calligraphic records, scripted in ink from a quill on the yellow pages are visible history of a growing community in Tulsa County. The neon sign that stands silently out front has become a familiar landmark in downtown Tulsa and glows with a certain eminence and warmth of a steadfast and faithful business known as Tulsa Abstract.
